Former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama ex-wife Agnes Kavindu Muthama has declared her interest in the Machakos Senatorial seat bringing a new twist to the already complex race.
Kavindu said that she is the right candidate to vie for the senatorial seat as she was conversant with the needs of the people and given that she had vied for Machakos women representative seat in 2017, it made her interact with different people in the county and know the challenges they were facing.
Agnes Kavindu rose to fame after vying for the Machakos Women Representative seat through a jubilee ticket and came number two and later got appointed to the Building Bridges Initiative task force by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“In 2017, I had vied for women representative seat in Machakos and got the opportunity to tour the whole county, later I got nominated by the president to the Building Bridges Initiative taskforce and toured the whole country and now I have interest in Machakos senatorial seat which was declared vacant after senator kabaka died. I will be vying because I want to help the people of Machakos, women you know that a lady knows the problems facing women, and am not saying that I will be helping the women alone but also the men,” Kavindu said in a viral clip.
“Am doing this because I have toured the whole country with Building bridges initiative collecting different opinions and the challenges that face the local mwananchi, so I have all the capacity to solve the challenges that face Machakos residents and Kenyans. As you know am I a preacher and God-fearing and am a woman of stature who has her own principles, given the seat I will work diligently, so am asking Machakos people to pray for me and vote for me,” She added.
Even though Kavindu has not disclosed the party that she will be vying with in the by-election, her entry in the race is a game-changer given that her ex-husband Johnson Muthama who is the UDA chairman is among the key campaigners in the by-election.
Other candidates interested in the seat so far include Lily Nduku of CCU, Urbanus Muthama Independent, Joseph Mathuki, Mutua Katuku of Maendeleo Chap, Bernard Kiala, Ndawa Magdalene, Gilbert Maluki, Simon Kitheka among others. Wiper party is said to be considering the wife to late Boniface Kabaka Jeniffer Mueni.
