Machakos Town MP Victor Munyaka is set to pay for the cost of the ongoing KNEC assessment exams which has been a nightmare to many parents. The Machakos MP was speaking at Katelembu center of excellence Wednesday.
Munyaka said that no child should be sent home for the monies as parents were facing economic hardships orchestrated by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Better I die while serving my people. It’s very important to take the education sector seriously. Machakos University changed the life and face of Machakos County. Let us put a lot of effort to educate our children.” Munyaka said.
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) is conducting school-based learning assessments for Grades 1 to 3 and Classes 5 to 7 this week. Parents are taking care of the printing costs and some schools have had to send children home who are unable to pay for the cost.
The MP also disbursed 750,000 for Katheka Kai primary school renovation, Mikuyu primary school received 500,000, Upper Kitanga got 700,000 for construction of a dining hall, and Kivani primary school received Kshs. 700,000.
Irene Mutheu Mumo a student who had school fee challenges got lucky as Victor Munyaka issued a 20,000 cheque in order to pay her school fee.
Munyaka was accompanied by Machakos Senatorial aspirant Urbanus Muthama Ngengele who lauded Munyaka for the good work and asked locals to support his bid.
