A grade one pupil is recuperating at Makueni Referral Hospital after being attacked by a hyena in Muusini, Kibwezi sub-county of Makueni county.
The little boy was attacked while heading to School with his siblings at 6 am in the morning.
His mother Mary Kavata narrated that she was notified about her son’s predicament by other parents.
She rushed to the scene and found her son with serious injuries on the head and thigh.
“They were running away from the animal when one of his shoes fell off as he went back for it the hyena pounced on him,” narrated the mother.
“The hyena dragged him to a nearby thicket where he kept screaming for help until a madman passing by heard his cries and rescued him,” she added.
The incident was confirmed by area chief Bosco Mutuku who warned locals that there could be more than one hyena in the area.
He urged the locals to be careful and called upon Kenya Wildlife Services to intervene and capture the beasts.
