Victims of Wednesday Morning fire in Mlolongo have blamed Machakos county for not responding in time. Most of the premises affected were businesses and the fire could be put out immediately after it started if the response was faster.
According to the members of the community policing, Efforts to reach governor Mutua through his mobile number so as to hasten the rescue process went futile as the calls went unanswered. The rescuers later contacted Nairobi Governor Mike sonko who then send the fire engines that arrived in about ten minutes later but the fire had already consumed most of to property and there was little to be saved.
The cause of the fire is yet to be known but it is rumoured that a gas cylinder caused the same. Locals later staged demonstrations and blocked Mombasa road so that Governor Mutua could not access his office but they were dispersed by police with teargas canisters.
One of the affected business men who spoke to the voice of ukambani Wednesday evening said he had lost investments which he had not fully paid the long. The seemingly depressed guy asked the county government to compensate them for the loss as the calamity had greatly affected them.
Several mlolongo residents who had witnessed the inferno asked the county government to station a fire engine there to serve Mlolongo and Syokimau in case of emergencies like this.
