Elizabeth Mwende David, mother of the late radio presenter Mercy Mawia, has broken her silence days after her daughter’s unexpected death.
In a poignant statement during a visit from Mercy’s friends, Elizabeth expressed the family’s acceptance and gratitude, saying, “I want to thank God for what he did because he doesn’t do wrong. Everything happens for good to those who love the Lord.”
“I am so grateful to you for visiting and condoling with us. We have that function planned for artists on Tuesday, you are welcome as we prepare to send off Mercy next week.” Elizabeth added.
Mercy, a beloved figure in Ukambani and across Kenya, was a pastor’s daughter and the eldest of three siblings.
Her sudden passing has left a void in the community. She tragically died at South B Hospital on Tuesday after a short illness.
Mercy is survived by her young daughter, Stephanie Wambui. She will be laid to rest at her husband’s home in Nyahururu, late next week. The family has requested privacy as they navigate this difficult time.
Amidst the outpouring of condolences from leaders and the public, the family has had to address false rumors online, clarifying that Mercy will not be cremated at Kariokor as claimed.
This unfortunate misinformation has added to their burden during this period of mourning.
