Meet 29-year-old Sharon Nthoki – Machakos Trade, Industry, Tourism, and innovation CEC

Sharon Nthoki Mutua was born in Kiambu where her parents were working then in 1992.  Sharon comes from Kangundo West Ward and is the second born in a family of 3.

She started school at Machakos primary and scored 409 out of 500 in her KCPE. She was admitted to Precious Blood Secondary Kilungu thereafter and scored an A-.

Sharon after doing well in her KCSE joined Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) for a Financial Engineering Degree.

After graduating she got an internship opportunity at the Commercial Bank of Africa in strategy and finance and later worked as a management consultant at Altima Africa Ltd from September 2015 to June 2017. 

Sharon has also worked as a communications specialist at Agile and Harmonized Assitance for Devolved Institutions (AHADI) devolution Program from 2018 to 2019 and headed communications for Lake Turkana wind Power Limited from 2019 to December 2020. In 2021, she set up her company Ares communications an integrated management consulting company.

Sharon is currently doing her Master’s degree in communications at USIU.

During her vetting by the Appointments Committee of Machakos County Assembly, she promised to market Machakos as an ideal investment destination and take advantage of its proximity to Nairobi, coordinate with other departments to facilitate investors, and create enabling environment for them.

On SMEs, she promised affordable capital such as the Machakos County Enterprise fund and the new fund intending to be rolled out for business. In addition, she vowed to educate people on how they can access the money.

On handicrafts, Sharon suggested upgrading the skills of the artisans to be able to make finished products and create an association so that they can have better bargaining and fetch better prices.
