Mbiuni ward won the recently concluded Mwala Sub county youth football tournament. The finals were played on Sunday between Mbiuni and Wamunyu at Kabaa primary School and Mbiuni won 3-0 against Wamunyu hence securing the chance to represent Mwala constituency in the County Football Kenya Federation (FKF) games set for 25th and 26th August. The team also won 50,000 and a trophy while the runners up and the third team won 30,000 and 20,000 respectively.
Speaking during the finals at Kabaa, Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka popularly known as ‘Kawaya’ congratulated the teams and challenged leaders to support talents. The MP also promised to have the games every year so as to help nurture and grow talents. Other leaders present during the finals include; Mwala Makutano MCA Brian Kisila, Joseph Wambua and Angela Munyasya and former Machakos Minority leaders Thomas Mweu Kasoa.
The football games were held from the Ward level where the teams competed to have one team representing the ward, all teams representing the wards would then play to have one overall winner for the constituency. Muthetheni ward was represented by Muthetheni FC, Kibauni ward by Mutula juniors, While Wamunyu was represented by Kyawango traders, Mbiuni ward was represented by Kabaa FC, Masii ward was represented by Masii FC and Mbiuni by Kabaa.
All participating football teams also secured uniforms and balls courtesy of Mwala MP. The second term MP also promised to support the winning teams in the FKF games. Some of the players who spoke to our reporter thanked the MP for the initiative and challenged the County Government of Machakos and the National Government to have similar initiatives to help grow and nurture talents.
