Coffee farmers drawn from different coffee factories and areas in Matungulu sub-county of Machakos County have named their preferred MP Candidate.
Led by Chairman Kwa Matingi Farmers Cooperative society, James Mwovi the farmers named Dr. Mwithi as their preferred candidate saying they took the initiative to support him because they saw him as a leader who was going to revive the coffee sector in Matungulu.
Mwovi also noted that after the coffee bill was drafted in the parliament they needed someone there who could push for the articulation of the bill and they have chosen in unison Dr. Jimmy Mwithi.
“We are happy today as coffee farmers that we have been able to meet Dr. Mwithi and we have given him our needs as coffee farmers and he has assured us of his support and among all leaders we have seen Mwithi is the one who can save the coffee sector in Matungulu,” he said.
“We are lucky that we are among coffee-growing areas in the county and through the leadership of Mwithi, the coffee bill will be enacted and amended to favour the coffee sector as well as lift our livelihoods,” he added.
Dr. Mwithi who is vying on a Maendeleo ChapChap ticket assured the farmers that he was going to bring back the glory of coffee sector in Matungulu by ensuring that the current bills will be amended and he will improve the sector.
“Today you have given me the problems of coffee farmers and this has been due to poor leadership in our area and through my leadership I will ensure that the glory of coffee farming in Matungulu is brought back,” said Mwithi.
Dr. Jimmy Mwithi is also the Azimio la Umoja coordinator in Matungulu sub-county.
