Matiang’i Visits Kitui, Ignites Speculation Over 2027 Presidential Bid

Former Interior Cabinet Secretary in the Uhuru administration Fred Matiang’i has stirred political excitement after declaring his 2027 presidential bid. The CS made the visit while en route from Katulani village, Kitui county, where he had gone to mourn the passing of his long-time bodyguard, Christopher Wambua, who died in September. Wambua had served as Matiang’i’s personal security for a decade.

During his visit to Kitui, Matiang’i stopped at various locations along the Kitui-Machakos road, where he interacted with residents and local hawkers. He was seen in good spirits, purchasing local produce such as fruits and other commodities from roadside vendors. His engagement with the locals seemed to further strengthen his connection with the people of the region.

The former CS officially entered the presidential race in July 2024 by hiring the Canadian lobbying firm Dickens & Madson to help support his 2027 bid. His visit to Kitui today appears to be part of his strategy to connect with grassroots supporters and gauge public sentiment as he prepares for the upcoming election.

As Fred Matiang’i strengthens his political presence in key regions like Ukambani, the 2027 race for the presidency is shaping up to be an intense and closely watched contest. His next moves will be pivotal in determining his political trajectory as he aims for the nation’s highest office.
