Police have arrested the middle-aged man who defiled his nieces then later poisoned them. The man identified as Munywoki Masila was nabbed today in Thitha, Mwingi central sub-county in Kitui county where he was hiding in a thicket.

The man had already taken poison before he was saved and arrested on Wednesday morning.

When residents smoked him out of his hiding, he begged them to kill him stating that he would rather die than go to jail for his crimes. He was however handed over to the police who rushed him to the hospital for treatment and later remanded at Mwingi police station awaiting arraignment in court.

The man committed the heinous act two days ago after the two children were left alone at home. He defiled the two-year-old girl and the 17-year-old girl before poisoning them with a chemical used to kill termites.

The two children were rushed to the hospital for treatment but the young one didn’t make it. The suspect is said to have fled from the scene after committing the act and was being sought by the police.

This comes just a day after Hellen Kitheka, Gender, sports, and culture CECM in Kitui County expressed distress over the increasing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and defilement incidents in the county promising justice for the 2 girls.
