Machakos Deputy Governor and Finance CECM Eng. Francis Maliti has been accused of using the ongoing county bursary distribution exercise to play politics.

Unlike in the previous years where a central launch happens and MCAs are given the cheques to distribute to their wards, this time the Deputy Governor has been touring all wards in person to give the bursaries.

Apart from the exercise being time-consuming and also a waste of county resources, Maliti has been accused of sidelining MCAs who are not allied to Maendeleo chap chap or who do not support his gubernatorial bid.

On Monday 17th January, Maliti led bursary cheques distribution in Kangundo East, Kangundo North, Matungulu North and Kyeleni Wards.

Some MCAs were left out of the exercise and locals who spoke to the media had this to say;

“We are sad because the information about the bursaries was given by Grace Munini who is the sitting MCA Kangundo East. It is unfair to have her left behind in the exercise as she should have been the host. Without our MCA we don’t know where we are headed.” One of the residents of Kangundo East narrated.

“MCAs say the budget they gave is not the one that was allocated and that’s why many of them have been sidelined in the exercise. This is should not be a Maendeleo chap chap affair. It is the taxes that we pay and all leaders should be involved.” Another local added.

Last week, residents of Mutituni held demos as they protested missing out on the bursaries.
