Makueni Water and Sanitation CEC – Who is Eng. John Kasyoki Kieti?

John Kasyoki Kieti was born in 1958 in Mbooni. He went to Ithemboni Primary from 1965 and later Kamuthembu Highschool and Dagoretti Secondary for A levels. He thereafter joined the University of Nairobi in 1979 and graduated in 1981 with a mechanical engineering degree.

Before graduating, he got a job with the Ministry of water at Eastleigh Workshops. He was transferred to Isiolo as a Divisional Water officer. In 1988, he proceeded to Belgium for studies and returned later and was posted to Western Kenya in 1990 as a Provincial Mechanical Engineer.

In 2000, he was transferred back to Nairobi as Assistant Director in charge of procurement of all machines and rigs. 6 years later he was deployed to the National Water cooperation. In 2009 he was posted as regional coordinator of North Eastern until 2012 when he was transferred to Makueni.

In March 2013 Kieti became County Director of water Makueni county and chair of advisory Water. He also served as a Resident engineer at NDMA. Kieti also participated in the formulation of the Water Policy. After 2019 he retired but has been doing consultancy.

Eng. Kieti has experience of over 38 years in the Water sector and during vetting promised to use Public-private partnerships and engage people who can do bulk water supply to the county.

He promised to do at least 5 mega-dams; Kianzou, Mwea, Makuyuni, Ngomano, and Mulima, and in the second phase of Thwake (water supply and sanitation) to supplement the water supply to the county.

On the shortage of Water in Wote – the county Headquarter, Eng. Kieti promised to improve Kamunyo and Kaiti 1 by raising the weirs and restarting Kaiti 2 and liaising with TANATHI on Kaiti 3.

During his vetting, Majority leader Kyalo Mumo joked about how, unlike the other nominees, Eng. Kieti did not have a book and a pen to note questions but could answer all questions.

Eng. John Kasyoki is worth 60 million.
