Makueni: Sonko Moved by Struggles of Rural School children, offers help

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has once again demonstrated his philanthropic spirit after an encounter with school children in rural Makueni County over the weekend.

Sonko, via his social media, shared that while on his way to Precious Blood Girls Kilungu in Makueni to visit students under his sponsorship program, he came across a group of pupils from Kikoko Primary School walking home, an encounter that left him deeply disturbed.

“Some of the children were in a heartbreaking state. One girl had a completely torn sweater, and her white school shirt was so dirty that it had turned brown. When I spoke to her, she told me she only has that one shirt, which she’s worn for the entire school term.” Sonko said.

Distressed and touched by their condition, Sonko sprang into action. “It was a Saturday, and fortunately, I found a school uniform shop still open at Nunguni Centre. I bought new sweaters and two shirts for the first girl, and a new school bag and sweater for the second.” Sonko recounted.

He further promised to return to Kikoko Primary School soon with what he described as a “big surprise” for the students, hinting at a larger donation or sustained support initiative.

“This is just a small gesture, but it speaks to a bigger issue. We must do more,” Sonko stated.

Social media has since lit up with praise for Sonko’s act of kindness, with many calling on leaders and well-wishers to follow Sonko’s example and support underprivileged children.
