Makueni Nominated MCA Bernadette Mutisya was cleared by IEBC Kangundo to vie for Kangundo North Ward on a NARC ticket.
Speaking outside IEBC offices in Kangundo, the MCA who is planning to unseat John Nzomo said that she had noted even after devolution was introduced the people of Kangundo North did not benefit from it. She cited that the area had been neglected even after electing leaders to represent them in the County Assembly.
Kalekye said that if elected as the next Kangundo North MCA she was going to ensure that through a partnership with the County Government as well as the National Government and NGOs, she was going to change the face of Kangundo by ensuring that she brings a factory to aid macadamia and avocado farmers because the two do well in the area.
“For two terms, Kangundo North ward people have elected leaders to represent them and no representation and development has been done in the area and thus the residents feel sidelined compared to other wards in the sub-county,” Bernadette alleged.
“We have macadamia and avocado as our cash crop but they do not benefit us. When elected I will ensure a factory is set up for the same and through this, the farmers will get paid as well as our youths get employed and bring about development ub the area,” she added.
The MCA Aspirant noted it is high time leaders embraced public participation as a way of ensuring that they relate well to the needs of the residents and ensure that they deliver accordingly.
“Without public participation, most leaders fail to understand the needs and problems facing residents. My tenure shall embrace public participation as a way of giving back to the community what they deserve,” she said.
