Makueni County Members of County Assembly passed the Makueni County Spatial Plan 2019-2029. The Motion was presented by the Chair Lands and Urban Planning Committee Felix Mateso.
According to the Wote MCA, this will ensure construction in towns happens in an organized manner and also control the development of the county.
“Mr. Speaker Sir, the County spatial plan will provide a framework for land, deliver convenient access to quality services for everyone while playing a facilitative role for sectors to create meaningful opportunities for everyone to participate in building the economy.” Wote MCA said.
According to Section 110(1) of the County Governments Act, County Governments should have a ten-year GIS-based database system spatial plan. This shall be a component of the County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP).
The motion was backed by almost all MCAs who also called for the County to hasten the planning of Markets and promote green grams, cowpeas, sorghum, and cotton farming.
“There is a need to revive the cotton and sisal industries Mr. Speaker for us to attain long term measures on development of agriculture. If we do not revive the two, the spatial plan will not put money in people’s pockets.” One of the legislators added.
