Makueni County has recorded a 17 percent growth in its Own Source Revenue (OSR) for the Financial year 2023/2024, reaching Kshs. 1,044,936,255. This marks a notable rise from Kshs. 891,595,987 collected in the previous financial year 2022/2023.
The growth is attributed to several measures implemented by the county government over the past year. These include the introduction of a unified auto-billing system, the adoption of cashless payment methods, and an intensive customer sensitization campaign designed to encourage voluntary payments.
According to a statement by the governor’s press Service, The enhanced Revenue Collection is crucial for the county’s capacity to independently finance essential projects in critical sectors such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure. This financial autonomy not only improves the quality of local services but also ensures that development initiatives are timely and better aligned with the specific needs of the community.
“Enhanced Own-Source Revenue (OSR) is vital for improving local services and development. It allows the county to fund key projects like healthcare, education, and infrastructure independently, leading to better, more timely initiatives that meet local needs.” The press statement read.
“Higher OSR also boosts the county’s financial autonomy, promoting sustainable growth and reducing reliance on national funding.” The statement went on.
