Makueni County Assembly staff begin working from home as cash crunch bites

Makueni county Assembly staff from Monday (26th April) began working from home following a directive issued end of last week by the clerk Kelvin Mutuku citing financial constraints.

According to the letter, the staff at the county Assembly cannot continue working normally without funds and they are to be recalled on a need basis.

Last week, the Assembly blamed the Finance CECM Mary Kimanzi for allegedly Writing a letter to the Controller of Budget asking for stoppage of funds to the County Assembly. This is now said to have stalled the operations at the assembly.

The MCAs have since not received their March salaries but Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana speaking to Mauvoo News last week blamed that on delay in the release of funds to counties by the National Government.

According to the Governor, the money that they will receive from the National Government will first go to important matters like paying contractors but not paying salaries and allowances.

“If they have been asked by their party to disrupt the peace in Makueni, Makueni has its owners and those are the people of Makueni. The speaker and clerk should slow down because there is no money.” Kibwana last week said.
