Makueni County Assembly Tuesday approved the nominee for County Secretary position amid concerns by a section of youthful MCAs over his age and ‘recycling’.

Tulimani MCA Kyalo Mumo who is also the majority leader presented Mutie’s name before the house. Most of the MCAs supported his appointment saying he has the requisite experience as he has served in the County Public Service Board for 7 years.

“This person is quite competent, levels of education is okey, he has worked in various institutions which warrant him to do what he is supposed to do as County secretary Mr. Speaker. He is someone who listens, someone who is willing to work and committed.”

Mutie’s appointment did not go well with some of the young MCAs and here is what some had to say, ” One thing am opposing is the age. I Believe we have young people who can serve Makueni people in the County secretary position. I believe we have so many educated young people in Makueni county. When we recycle people after 7 years back again to the same office we are not doing justice to the people out there with their masters and degrees.”

Benjamin Mutie went to the University of Nairobi for his Bachelor of Arts Degree from 1986 to 1989. He proceeded for his Master of Arts Degree from the same university from 1990 – 1992.

Before joining Makueni County Government, Mr. Mutie was the Director of Programmes at the Kenya Institute of Social Work. He has also been the president of the ICSW East and southern Africa region.
