Makueni County on Sunday recorded its first Coronavirus case at Malili market in Kilome constituency. Confirming the case Makueni Health CECM Dr. Andrew Mulwa said the case is of a 35-year-old man who works at Konza Techno City and lives within Malili town.
Konza Techno City is just near Malili market and is along Nairobi-Mombasa highway in the boarders of Makueni, Machakos and Kajiado counties.
“This is the first Coronavirus case in our County. We have visited the apartment to identify the people he came in contact with. The patient will be taken to Makueni Level 4 Hospital.” Dr. Andrew Mulwa said.
Dr. Mulwa revealed that the Makueni Coronavirus case did not exhibit any symptoms and they shall take him into quarantine. He added that the patient has no history of traveling and they will fumigate all areas he been visiting and do mass testing within the Malili market to curb the possibility of the spread of the virus.
“We shall do mass testing as this town lies along the busy Nairobi-Mombasa highway and we might have other cases within this town,” he added.
This case comes as the country marks 167 cases where Mulwa terms the case as of community spread. Speaking to us over the same, Mukaa Deputy County Commissioner Alaso Hussein Alaso called upon Makueni residents not to panic as they shall do all it takes.
“I urge all residents from this area to follow the government directives so that we curb this menace”, Alaso said.
He lauded Mulwa’s words promising that they shall disinfect all the areas where the victim has passed including his workplace.
In May, a truck driver who was on transit to a neighboring country and who had been tested in Mombasa was found positive. At the time he was called to be informed on the results he was a few kilometers to Emali in Makueni County.
