Three individuals including a train driver and a security guard have been arrested in connection with the siphoning of fuel from train wagons at Sultan Hamud Railway Station in Makueni in a joint operation involving Kenya Railways and Port Police.
The Directarote of crimal investigation (DCI) released a statement on their Facebook Page stating that the suspects Nicodemus Keya, Mutunga Mwanzia, and Geoffrey Irungu were allegedly caught in the act following a tip off about suspicious activities at the station.
Police officers responding to the alert moved swiftly to the scene, where they recovered two 20-litre jerrycans and two 18-litre water dispenser bottles filled with petrol believed to have been siphoned from the train.
“Police officers stormed the scene and seized two 20-litre jerrycans and two 18-litre water dispenser bottles filled to the brim with stolen petrol”. The DCI wrote.
At the time of the incident, the train was stationed at Sultan Hamud awaiting a change of driver as the three suspects were immediately taken into custody and escorted to Emali Railways Police Station, where they are being processed ahead of their arraignment in court.
