Two people have been arrested in connection with stealing drugs at the Mavivye Dispensary in Kilome, Makueni county.
The incident was confirmed by area Assistant Chief Alice Muthoka who said that the two are currently locked at Salama police station awaiting arraignment in court.
A neighbor of the hospital told the media that at around 6 am a bodaboda rider entered the hospital and left with two sacks that looked suspicious.
The concerned neighbor tried to stop the rider who sped off causing more suspicion.
“The rider entered the hospital and came out after 4 minutes carrying two sacks whose content I did not know, suspecting something is wrong I tried to stop him but he refuses, I called the area MCA Justus Mwanzia who helped in arresting the man, and handed him to Mavivye police post then handed over to Salama police,” the hospital neighbor narrated.
The suspect after interrogation disclosed that a nurse at the hospital had given him the drugs in the sacks to transport to a place he didn’t disclose.
The police have commenced Investigations into the incident.
Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior recently warned healthcare workers against drug theft promising stringent measures to be taken against anyone found culpable.
Mutula had flagged off drugs worth 77 million to 236 public and 10 faith-based hospitals in the County.
Just this week hospital staff was arrested in Muumandu, Machakos County for stealing drugs.
