Makau takes on Wavinya over Foreign trips

Mavoko MP Patrick Makau has raised concerns over the frequent foreign trips by Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti, alleging that county funds may be getting misused.

Speaking during bursary cheques distribution, Makau questioned whether Ndeti’s trips were necessary, comparing her to governors from neighboring counties.

“You have been told here that Machakos gets 15 Billion, if you are seeing development from the 100 million I get, how much more can 15 Billion do? Where is the Governor now? She is out of the country. The Nairobi Governor is in Nairobi. Have you ever heard that the governor of Makueni or Kitui has traveled abroad?” Makau asked.

“Did you elect a governor or a tourist?” The MP who is also eyeing the Governor seat in 2027 posed.

Both Makau and Ndeti are members of the Wiper party. In the 2022 elections, Makau had initially sought the Wiper ticket for the Machakos gubernatorial seat but stepped down in favor of Ndeti.

His latest criticism suggests a growing rift between the two leaders as they prepare for the next political contest.

Governor Ndeti has yet to respond to the accusations, but her administration has previously defended official trips as necessary for attracting investment and development to the county.
