Maima’s Latest song ‘Mwaka wa Gen-Z’ takes the internet by storm

Alphonse Kioko popularly known as Maima has released a new song dubbed ‘Mwaka wa Gen-Z’ (The Year of Gen-Z) reflecting on the recent events in the country.

The song which has amassed over 60,000 views on YouTube hours after release explains how several issues have unfolded in the country making him question what is happening.

“The things that we have been experiencing in our country have never happened before. This makes me wonder whether God has decided to punish us after we wronged him. I ask God to forgive us because we are not doing well as a country,” Maima opens the song with a powerful verse (translated).

Maima went on to narrate how the past rainy season wreaked havoc with more than 300 deaths caused by the floods and now we have a new wave of youths calling themselves Gen-Z who are demanding President Ruto do what they tell him.

“The President thought they were joking before they entered the Parliament and started eating lunch there which forced the MPs to hide a thing that has never happened before. This forced the President to drop the Finance Bill and also dismiss his cabinet,” Maima in the song goes on.

Maima added that the demonstrations by Gen-Z have shocked the whole world because there have never been such demonstrations by young people who went on to force their President to make changes in his government due to pressure.

In the song, he cautioned those who are looting in the name of demonstrating and soiling the name of Gen-Zs to stop that.

“Those who are using the Gen-Z protests to loot properties to force police to use excessive force on innocent people should stop that. Let us demonstrate in peace without causing chaos hoping that President Ruto will listen to the cry of the people,” he added.
