Machakos: Drama as Salvation Army congregants demand Captain’s exit

A Sunday service at the Salvation Army Church Machakos Citadel took a dramatic turn when congregants staged a protest demanding the immediate transfer of their Captain, identified as Benjamin Mutisya, over alleged mismanagement.

Worshippers accused Captain  Mutisya of misusing church funds, selling a church vehicle without consultation, and ignoring their grievances.

Tensions escalated as angry members, armed with stones, broke into his office, where he had locked himself in, chanting for his removal.

Attempts by the embattled clergyman to calm the situation fell on deaf ears, with congregants insisting he had refused to listen to them in the past.

“It’s like we are being forced to contribute a certain amount during harambees, if you give less your name is taken to the last position. He should know that in the church there is no rich or poor we are the same,” said one member.

“He has sold church property without consulting us and allowed the finance committee to misuse church funds on unauthorized expenses,” the congregant alleged.

They sang farewell songs in unison as he finally walked away, signaling his unwelcome departure.

“You cannot lead people you don’t listen to. You came here just the other day, and we are already dissatisfied with you,” another congregant stated.
