Machakos Traffic Police Officer Earns Global Recognition

Julius Mwenda, a traffic police officer in Machakos County, has been internationally recognized for his outstanding contributions to environmental conservation.

Mwenda’s innovative efforts to combat climate change and foster community engagement have earned him a nomination for the Global Changemakers Award, which will be presented in Malaysia this year.

What sets Mwenda apart is his initiative, the Kingsmind Cycling Club & Foundation, which he founded to address climate change collaboratively.

“Climate change motivated me to commit to environmental conservation, but I realized it cannot be done alone. It’s a collective responsibility,” Mwenda told local media.

Through this platform, Mwenda has led the Project 100 Group. He has mobilized local communities to plant thousands of trees and restore degraded environments in Machakos.

In 2024, his commitment earned him the title of Environmentalist of the Year by Elite Brands International. His cycling group was also recognized as the Outstanding and Innovative Cycling Club of the Year.

This serves as a testament to the impact of his work. Mwenda’s innovations include designing an eco-friendly incinerator that converts waste into energy, consequently reducing the carbon footprint and offering sustainable waste management solutions. He also uses sports, such as cycling and soccer, to engage the youth, promoting environmental awareness and community cohesion.

The Global Changemakers Award celebrates individuals who show leadership and innovation in addressing global issues.
