Machakos Senatorial aspirant embarks on an environmental campaign around the county

Machakos Senatorial aspirant in the 2021 by-election Dr. John Kioko Musingi has embarked on an environment campaign across the county to sensitize residents on ways of protecting mother nature from pollution.

Dr. Musingi’s convoy comprised of more than ten vehicles branded with environment conservation message begun its tour from Athi-river through Machakos town to Mwala and Katangi to Matuu among other areas where they addressed residents on the need to conserve and protect rivers against pollution in order to harness water for agricultural production.

“Our road trip was very exciting and we were received extremely well with people demanding more posters. We visited Athi River streets, chumvi, Machakos town streets, Mutituni, Masii, Makutano, Wamunyu, Katangi, and Mwala, Kabaa, Kithimani, Sofia, Matuu, Kanyoonyoo, Kithyoko, Kivandini Masinga, Kaewa, and Kivaa will be redone because darkness caught up with us. We also plan Kangundo, Kathiani, and Matungulu areas next,” said Dr Musingi.

He thanked those who participated in the road trip and called on more volunteers to join his campaign.

Dr. Musingi who is a University of Nairobi Lecturer and Environmental Consultant said well-conserved rivers can reduce the gap between the rich and the poor noting that the poor will not be required to buy bottled water because if the environment is conserved water would readily available.

The Don who has expressed interest in Machakos Senatorial seat said waterborne diseases which cause the poor to spend resources seeking treatment will be a thing of the past if the rivers were well conserved, he regretted that the county government of Machakos was more interested in planting ornamental flowers on the roadside rather than orchards and trees for a better environment.

Dr. Musingi is among other leaders who have declared interest in Machakos Senatorial seat. Other candidates interested in the seat so far include Lily Nduku of CCU, Urbanus Muthama Independent, Joseph Mathuki, Mutua Katuku of Maendeleo Chap, Bernard Kiala, Ndawa Magdalene, Gilbert Maluki, Simon Kitheka among others. Wiper party is said to be considering the wife to late Boniface Kabaka Jeniffer Mueni or Agnes Kavindu.
