Machakos MCA Accuses Mwangangi of Plot to Oust Governor Wavinya

Machakos, Kenya – A political storm is brewing in Machakos County after Kinanie Ward MCA and County Assembly Minority Leader, Francis Kavyu, accused Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi of orchestrating a covert plot to impeach Governor Wavinya Ndeti.

Adressing the press, Kavyu alleged that Mwangangi has been holding clandestine meetings with top national government officials, including President William Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, despite his public criticism of leaders who engage with the Kenya Kwanza administration.

“You keep saying people shouldn’t meet the President or his deputy — at least they do it during the day. We know you’ve been sneaking into night meetings with the President and other senior government officials,” Kavyu claimed.

The outspoken MCA further accused the deputy governor of betraying Governor Wavinya by remaining silent during a recent raid by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) at Machakos County offices. According to Kavyu, Mwangangi was aware of the operation two weeks before it happened and allegedly hoped it would result in the governor’s arrest — paving the way for him to assume leadership.

Kavyu also linked Mwangangi to the controversial UK corruption allegations involving Machakos County, claiming the deputy governor had prior knowledge of the scandal and even boasted about being prepared to take over.

“He even said he had already bought a suit, ready to be sworn in as governor,” Kavyu alleged.

The MCA challenged Mwangangi to come clean about his 2027 ambitions, urging him to resign and seek a fresh mandate from the people rather than “pretending to support the governor while plotting her downfall from within.”

“If you want to be governor, resign and face the people. Don’t destabilize the County with behind-the-scenes politics,” Kavyu said.

He further accused the deputy governor of fueling unrest within the county, suggesting a deliberate attempt to provoke MCAs into initiating impeachment proceedings against Governor Wavinya.

“This plan of waiting for the governor to be arrested so you can take over won’t work. Machakos has no place for such underhanded politics,” he added.

As of the time of publication, neither Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi nor Governor Wavinya Ndeti had issued a response to the allegations.
