Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has reiterated her dedication to empowering the youth saying her administration is focused on creating opportunities that transform their lives.
Speaking during a Sunday service in Kathiani, the County boss highlighted several programs aimed at equipping the youth with skills and tools for self-reliance.
“In the last financial year, we trained 2,200 youths in driving and ICT under the Machakos Youth Empowerment Program, which now has over 1,000 active participants. Once the certificates are ready, we will provide start-up kits. This year, we plan to recruit another 1,500 youths,” said Wavinya.
She added that her administration is working closely with national government officers to ensure transparency in selecting beneficiaries. So far, over 2,000 youths have been employed across the county.
“I have directed my team to collaborate with National Government Administrative Officers to identify the right people. We are also launching another phase of the Ngarisha Mtaa project, which will clean our towns and benefit the youth,” she added.
On matters health, the governor said her government is building a teaching and referral hospital to improve access to quality medical services for Machakos residents.
She also dismissed critics seeking to derail her agenda, saying she remains focused on delivering development in key sectors including water, agriculture, education, health, and roads.
Her remarks come at a time when the county is grappling with a serious health crisis, which has drawn criticism and pressure from various quarters, including Machakos Senator Agnes Kavindu. The senator has accused the Governor of neglecting the issue and failing to take swift action to address the situation.
Governor Wavinya urged Machakos residents to continue supporting the Wiper Party and its leader, Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, in his 2027 presidential bid. She encouraged voters to elect Wiper leaders at all levels to strengthen unity and accelerate development in the region.
