Machakos fire department on the spot after fire completely razes Machakos hotel

Machakos county fire department has been put on the spot for failing to respond in time to a fire at OXC hotel in Machakos suburb of Eastleigh which is barely 5 minutes drive from the fire department.

According to an eyewitness who spoke to Mauvoo News reporter, the fire began at around midnight and their calls to the fire brigade went unanswered.

As a result of the delay and inaction, the fire razed down the entire hotel and nothing could be salvaged. The owner of the OXC hotel is counting losses in millions.

“I called the fire brigade after spotting the fire and their phones went unanswered. We waited for them but the police came first and then the firefighters came way later after the fire had destroyed the building.” An eyewitness narrated.

Machakos county fire department was also on the spot early last week after delaying to get to the scene of a fire at Mlolongo Madharau street.

According to eyewitnesses, after they called the Mavoko fire engine, the firefighters arrived after 4 hours and were of little help. The incident left 50 households homeless and 4 people with injuries.
