The County Executive of Machakos on Tuesday set aside 100 million to fight the coronavirus that is fast spreading. This was revealed by Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua while speaking to the press in Mavoko.
“We held a cabinet meeting to discuss the status of the coronavirus threat to Machakos. We have undertaken several measures and are in the process of procuring different items. The cabinet today has approved a budget of 100 million as an emergency fund for our ministry of health.” Mutua said.
Mutua revealed that 19 health workers from Machakos have been given extensive training on Coronavirus and are training the rest of the health practitioners in the county.
The Governor added that Machakos county staff will continue working so that they deliver services to the people but there will be measures to protect them from contacting coronavirus. He asked factories, businesses not to shut down but ensure they take measures to protect their workers.
“Am asking all businesses in Machakos County to remain open. You need to put in place measures to protect your workers. Let’s prevent people from getting sick but when they do we must take care of them.” He added.
Mutua said that he was pleased after checking on the coronavirus isolation wards and they will be increased to 5 in the whole Machakos County. He asked residents to refrain from visiting government offices for services they can get online.
On public transport, Mutua said that vehicles must be sterilized every 4 hours with alcohol-based sterilizers. He asked buildings to sterilize doors, desks and common points at least 3 times a day.
The Governor also advised people to stop shaking hands and wash hands frequently to stop the spread of the disease.
Earlier this week, the Kirinyaga County Assembly approved an allocation of 4 million shillings for corona virus control. This allocation in Kirinyaga county was through a supplementary budget.
