Machakos County Women Rep Kamene Kasimbi has a special request to the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai. Kamene wants the incidents of gender-based violence investigated and those who are found capable taken to court.
“The Government, we know the police are led by Hillary Mutyambai, we want results. We know women have been oppressed for Long and especially the new cases.”
Just last week, a man chopped the ears of his wife at Kitololo village in Masinga. This is after she revealed that he was behind the theft of 11 goats from damsite village. The Man, Mr. Mathuku together with his brother fled after the incident. The victim recorded a statement at Kithyoko police station.
“When we see harassment like we saw in Masinga and a woman’s ears were chopped off is very serious. We need the police to follow and the culprits brought into the books. We want justice to this woman.” Kamene added.
According to statistics, one in every three women aged between 15 and 49 have undergone some form of violence. Every year in Kenya an average of 3000 defilement cases, 800 rape cases, 200 cases of sodomy and incest are reported.
End last month, Women held an all white vigil at the university of Nairobi for the victims of femicide. According to the daily active Kenya, the event was intended to start a national conversation around the increasing cases of gender based violence mostly orchestrated by the lovers of the Women.
