Machakos County Assembly on Tuesday passed a motion that urges the county to review salaries of Early child Development Education (ECDE) teachers. Most teachers have been earning as low as 9,000 per month. This is despite some of them being degree holders.
The motion had been tabled by Stephen Mwanthi, Ekala kala MCA. “we know this teachers work really hard to educate our children and they are paid small salaries. As machakos county assembly we have passed this motion and we will continue speaking with the executive.” he said.
Mwanthi thanked the County Assembly for supporting his motion.
Kivaa MCA Justus Kitengu also called for the improvement of the learning environment in the schools. He highlighted that the head count being conducted might reveal Lot’s of ghost workers.
There has been cries to fairly compensate ECDE teachers who play a very important role in the education sector. The county was also challenged to subsidize most of the requirements as parents are still forced to pay some fees despite it being free.
