Machakos County yesterday closed Kithini Market in Kangundo Sub-county. Kithini becomes the fourth market to be closed after Katheka Kai (Mukaawani), Kanaani, and Chaimoto.

The Covid-19 case reported in Masii last week had visited the Market and this resulted in the County taking the stern action. Fredrick Mutaki, a public health officer at Kivaani said that the decision was reached because the Covid-19 case visited the market.

The Assistant County Commissioner Grace said that they will be carrying out patrols to ensure locals do not access the market.

Leo tunapeana masharti. She added.

On Thursday 18th, Machakos County reported 4 Coronavirus cases. 2 were from people who came into contact with the patient who died from Covid-19 2 weeks ago and 2 were from AthiRiver.

On Friday 19th, According to the Ministry of Health Daily briefings, Machakos reported 3 more cases from Athi River which now brings the reported cases in the County to more than 30.

Traders from Markets that were closed appealed to the County Government to allow them resume their businesses as they were closed without notice. To buy basic commodities some of the residents have to go as far as Machakos town.
