Several Learners from Kalimamundu primary school, Kitui county are said to have been facing a severe food shortage which resulted in some of them fainting in school.
This attracted the attention of Kyuso sub-county director of Education Stephen Mulandi who wrote to the Principal Kyuso secondary requesting the school to donate some food to the primary school.
“Please note that the situation is so desperate that a few of the pupils fainted this morning from hunger pangs and well-wishers had to make financial contributions to salvage the situation.” The letter dated 24th August read in part.
“The office, therefore, requests you in liaison with the board of management to donate some food to remedy the dire situation. I hope you will grant this request favorable consideration to enable our children to access education.” The letter went on.
Mauvoo News has now established that Learners from Kalimamundu Primary will have food for a few days once they return from midterm next week.
The incident has attracted a lot of criticism to local leaders from Mwingi and Kitui county on social media who are being blamed for not acting on the needs of their people.
Several parts of Mwingi and Kitui are facing hunger after failed rains in the last rainy season.
