Kwanthanze Girls wins Africa Schools Championship

Kwanthanze Girls has been crowned Africa champions after defeating hosts Morocco 3-0 in the Federation of African Schools Sports Championships in Casablanca.

The six-time East African Secondary Schools volleyball champions served off the Africa Schools Games on a high note after they blew away hosts Morocco (25-17, 25-16,25-10).

Kwanthanze defeated Lycee Bir Anzarane Team B in their opening match on Monday and punched the final ticket directly after topping the two-team Group B while Morocco Team A defeated Niger and Senegal to reach the final.

This was the first time Kwathanze reached the Africa Championships and they didn’t disappoint. They will now move to the  World School Games.

Ahead of the Championship, the team was hosted by the Kenya Academy of Sports at the Kasarani Indoor Arena and they alos met Malkia Strikers’ coach Paul Bitok and  KCB head coach Japheth Munala who impacted some knowledge and skills to the players.

Machakos Town MP Caleb Mule who had accompanied the girls to Morocco said, “Delighted to have joined Kwanthanze volleyball team in Morocco for the ongoing African School Championship games 2023. Kwanthanze are the Kenya Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) girls’ volleyball representatives. I wish them all the best and victory.”

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti who had sponsored the team with air tickets took to Facebook to celebrate the victory saying,” I’m overwhelmed by joy on learning that our very own Kwathanze Secondary School volleyball team, the recently crowned national champions as well as in the East Africa regional tournament held in Arusha, Tanzania have once again flown the Kenyan flag high in Morocco, North Africa where they are representing East Africa.”

“They have put forth a stunning performance by winning all the sets played against the Morocco team. I am happy they have done us proud out there. We appreciate and congratulate them on this great achievement.” Governor Wavinya added.
