A section of youths in Kitui County are calling for the impeachment of Governor Julius Malombe, accusing him of poor leadership, nepotism, corruption, and neglect of essential services.
In a press statement, the youths revealed that they have also written to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), asking for an investigation into how county funds are collected and spent.
“On Thursday, we filed a petition seeking to have our Governor Julius Malombe impeached. We have instituted and written a letter to the EACC requesting them to come and do substantial investigations on matters of revenue collection and expenditure,” one of them said.
“People in Kitui need to know where their money is going. This county is being run like a personal business, not a public office,” he added.
The group highlighted several issues with Malombe’s leadership, including the Deputy Governor acting as the County Executive Committee (CEC) member for tourism for three years.
“It’s against the law for someone to hold an acting position for more than six months,” they explained.
They also raised concerns about the state of healthcare in Kitui, saying that many facilities lack basic supplies like gloves and painkillers.
“Patients, are often directed to buy these items from specific chemists allegedly linked to county officials,” they added.
The youths urged Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) to hold Malombe accountable and take steps toward his impeachment, saying it’s time for change in Kitui.
