Kitui County Governor Charity Ngilu was dealt a blow after the county assembly of Kitui rejected 2 of her nominees for the county public service selection board. Those rejected were Ngilu’s advocate Morris Kimuli and Linah Kilonzi.
The county Assembly Wednesday approved the motion of the appointment committee on the vetting of nominees to the county public service board selection panel that was tabled by Majority leader Peter Kilonzo and seconded by minority leader Alex Nganga.
The approved nominees to the county public service board selection panel are; Nicodemus Ivuti Kisengese the Chairperson, Marcs Ngele Kilonzo a member, and Charity Kathathi Musyoka a member as well.
According to the appointment committee report, Linah Kilonzi is currently working for the IEBC and as such can’t hold 2 public offices according to section 58 of the County Government act.
Morris Kimuli did not provide the required clearance from the Credit Reference Bureau and the Higher Education Loans Board and was disqualified from the public service board on that basis.
Last week during the vetting, the remarks Kimuli is alleged to have made against the speaker who chairs the appointment committee put him in a fix.
It was during his vetting end last week by the Assembly appointment committee chaired by speaker George Ndoto that the alleged remarks returned to haunt him.
“He and another advocate actually said that the speaker who is the chair of the committee was out of his mind and needed some psychiatric tests. I don’t know how one being out of his mind can chair such a committee. ” Majority leader Peter Mwikya Kilonzo took on Kimuli during the vetting.
Kimuli on the response said at that time he was doing his work as Ngilu’s counsel. “Whatever happens if these members don’t find it suitable I will not regret it, I will move on with service elsewhere if there is someone else who can serve better than me. That’s alright” he added.
In May, Kitui County Assembly held a special sitting in which they rejected the names of the nominees Kitui County Public Service Board forwarded to the County Assembly by Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu in February, 7 months after the term of the last service board expired in July 2019. The nominees rejected were Francis Kiliku, Joseph Kyavoa, David Munyao, Lilian Kivati, Mwendwa Munyasya, and Esther Kasyoka.
