Kitui Level 4 hospital has been put on the spot once again after an expectant lady Nancy Musyoka died over lack of oxygen in the facility.
According to her cousin Angel Katusia they took Nancy to the hospital after she started experiencing difficulty in breathing. She had earlier tested positive for Covid -19.
“A short thread of how I lost my expectant cousin of COVID-19 yesterday. She tested positive a few days ago and sought treatment in Kitui and was advised to isolate at home. Yesterday she was struggling to breathe and was rushed to the Kitui District Hospital,” Angel in a Tweet narrated.
According to the family, the hospital was not equipped to handle the case as there was no oxygen and the request to take her to Nairobi hospital took hours and they lost her on the way.
“The hospital was not equipped to handle the emergency, this is the main hospital in Kitui County, with no much care offered at the hospital, the family requested for a referral to a Nairobi Hospital. The referral process took over 5 hours, we lost her in the ambulance,” The cousin, Angel went on.
The incident has resulted in an uproar on social media among them Kitui East MP Nimrod Mbai lashing out at the county of government for lacking equipment in the county hospital.
“Kitui East has just lost one of her Princesses, Nancy Musyoka. Our daughter, we are all in tears as we accept God’s will. To H.E Governor Charity Ngilu, this girl died on her way from Kitui level IV hospital due to lack of oxygen in the hospital, where was the ICU Bed? Madam Governor, please just walk to the hospital and confirm to the people of Kitui if the ICU bed is available and whether it is functional.” The Kitui East MP said.
Below are other reactions to the sad incident;
Charles Mwalimu said, “This is the sad state of affairs in Kitui. But our Governor is engaged in PR exercises parading masks and sijui what.”
Nurse Betty said, “The county government should built ICU ward instead of buying tomatoes sauce and juices machines using Covid 19 funds. It’s so sad to lose young and genetic youth like her, let rest in peace. I kindly request kitui residents not to make mistake again by reelected this regime.”
Savatia added, “Pole sana Angel. One would think that after the Abuja declaration, long serving politicians like @mamangilu would know the importance of prioritizing health at devolved levels but it’s BBI this & that all day long. This is so sad.”
In June 2021, Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua said that the healthcare in Kitui county was in ICU and said he was thinking of whether the department can be reverted to the National Government.
Last week, Former Kitui Senator David Musila also decried that the condition of some healthcare facilities in Kitui county was wanting.
