Health workers from Kitui Level 4 hospital; nurses and casual workers had downed their tools Monday over what they cited as a 3-month delay in their salaries.

Addressing journalists after the go slow one of the workers said that they took their cry to the CECM of Health in Kitui Dr. Winnie Kitetu who told them that by Monday next week they will be having their salaries failure to that they will stage another demo.

“We have taken our concerns to the minister of health who has promised us by Monday we will be having our salaries, but if they do not fulfill our promise we have no otherwise other than demonstrating again,” said one of the workers.

“This hospital has a lot of problems, some of us have not even been paid since January and when we ask we are told that there are no funds in the county,” added the worker.

Kitui Senator Enoch Kiio Wambua last month said he was thinking of having the health sector in Kitui transferred back to the National government as the county government was mismanaging it.

“The health situation in Kitui is in itself in the ICU. We have a supposedly level 5 hospital that does not function, including the staff. In fact, I’ve been thinking over this issue and I’m thinking of approaching the Health Committee of the Senate to begin a conversation on whether it is viable to have the county government of Kitui sign a deed of transfer on the health function. Because clearly, the Governor and her officers are unable to manage the health situation in Kitui county. ” The senator during a senate sitting said.
