A 14-year-old girl from the Imale area in Kyatune Location, Mutomo of Kitui South Sub-county has died after being struck by lightning.
Confirming the incident, Kyatune Location Chief Kyambati King’ondu said that the 14-year-old girl was with her 16-year-old sister when the lightning struck their house.
The two were rushed to hospital but the 14-year-old succumbed to death while her sister is still receiving treatment at Mutomo Mission Hospital.
“Two girls were struck last night while they were sleeping at around 1 am. When it struck one of the girls was badly injured and she succumbed when she was receiving treatment at the hospital,” said the chief.
“The sister to the deceased is still receiving treatment at Mutomo Mission Hospital to nurse the lightning injuries,” Chief Kyambati added.
The Body of the deceased was taken to Mwingi level 4 hospital for preservation awaiting burial.
