When they lost their Mother Mbung’a Makuthu of Voo Kyamatu Ward, Kitui East on the 25th of May 2018, the Family not only had to bear with the pain of losing their loved one but also the worry of how to raise a hospital bill of Kshs. 420,000 to warrant the release of the body for Burial by the Kenyatta National Hospital. The villagers tried to raise the money but they only managed Kshs. 10,000 understandably due to the Poverty in one of the remotest parts of the vast county of Kitui. The lady had only one daughter Kavutha Makuthu.
Led by the Family Chairman, they then shared the matter with their local MCA Mr. Nelson Musyoka who promised to get the Family assistance but that was the last time the family heard from him. Having no other option, the family had to rely on well-wishers and the media to highlight their plight and their story was first aired at a local Radio Athiani FM before we picked it up.
The family representative Kasoa Mulwa while speaking to our reporter called on the Kitui East MP Nimrod Mbai and Governor Charity Ngilu to help them get the body released even if it meant engaging the Hospital to waive the bill as the Family was completely unable and also they needed to have the body buried for them to have peace of mind. So far, the Mortuary bill has accumulated to over Kshs. 30,000 and increases each day.
Those willing to assist the Family can reach the Chairman Mr. Kasoa Mulwa through 0700191057.
