Kitui East Member of Parliament Nimrod Mbai is once again on the spot after threatening to harm Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) who vote to impeach Kitui County Assembly Speaker Kevin Kinengo.
Speaking during an empowerment event for boda boda riders in Kitui Rural, the outspoken legislator vowed to mobilize youths to block the impeachment process, warning MCAs against participating in the vote.
“Myself, Moses and Kitui youths — on the day of impeachment voting, we will all meet in Kitui Town. Let the MCA who is a man come to Kitui Town to vote to impeach the Speaker,” Mbai declared.
The MP went on to issue further threats, suggesting that violence would be used to stop the process.
“There are people you can’t deal with their stupidity by talking to them but only by beating them. We will beat them. That Assembly won’t be accessible. Whoever wants to impeach Kinengo won’t get to the Assembly,” he said.
Mbai further warned that anyone attempting to remove the Speaker would face resistance, adding that “the closest they will be to Kitui is Katangi, facing Nairobi,” and claiming that “the violence, the fire that will be in Kitui as we defend Kinengo, who is an orphan,” would be unmatched.
His remarks have sparked outrage among residents and political observers, who have accused the MP of inciting violence and undermining democratic processes.
Political parties and civil-society actors have previously condemned violence in the county’s political disputes. Earlier this year Wiper party officials condemned an assault on a Kitui MCA after she expressed support for Kalonzo, an incident that was allegedly carried out by individuals linked to Mbai.
In July 2025 he announced the banning of Wiper Party from his Kitui East constituency.
