Kitui County headquarters shut after staff contacted Covid-19

Kitui County headquarters housing the main administration block have been shut for at least 2 weeks after some staff who work at the building tested positive for Covid-19.

This was revealed by the Kitui County secretary Dr. Joshua ChepChieng who said they have given some staff two weeks to quarantine at home to curb the spread of COVID-19

Chepchieng said this was as a result of ongoing COVID 19 testing carried out in government offices, especially on officers who serve many people a day.

“While those are on leave we have given everybody working in those offices 15 days leave to break the cycle as advised by the ministry of health,” he said.

He confirmed they have tested over 200 officers, adding that in some departments, officers are free from Coronavirus and are ongoing with their duties of serving the Kitui residents.

“In Agriculture, Finance, and Environment, all those officers are okay. The public will however not get service from the main block. So you can be served in agriculture offices, LIUD and Municipality all those are operational,” he averred

This comes just a week after the ministry of health confirmed 41 cases of Coronavirus from Kitui county following the mass testing which was carried out in various departments of both National and County Government.

Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu was on Friday (21st August) tested for Covid-19.
