Kitui County Commissioner Calls for Enhanced Security Measures

Kitui County Commissioner Kipchumba Rutto and Kitui Central Sub-County Police Commander Peter Karanja have called for stronger collaboration between security agencies and the public to enhance peace and security in the region.

The call was made during the establishment of the Kitui County Multi-Sectoral Coordination and Collaboration Forums on Peace and Security aimed at focusing on the development of County Peace Plans, which will serve e as a roadmap for coordinated efforts to prevent and resolve conflicts in Kitui Countat the Kitui Multi-Purpose Hall. The security consultative forum was attended by local government security agents and selected members of the public.

Rutto, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that Kitui remains a safe and peaceful area for all residents. He emphasized the National Government’s responsibility to maintain law and order, protect property, promote peace, and safeguard fundamental rights.

His remarks came in light of recent security threats across the country, underscoring the need for a unified approach to restoring stability.

“We are dedicated to promoting peace and harmony within our communities, fostering national integration, and ensuring loyalty to the Republic of Kenya,” Rutto stated.

The formation of Peace Committees, Rutto noted, is a strategic move to facilitate dialogue, identify potential conflicts, and develop sustainable solutions while highlighting the importance of early warning systems, conflict prevention mechanisms, and regular consultations among stakeholders to prevent potential conflicts.

“We must be proactive in our approach to security. Regular consultations and collaboration among stakeholders are key to identifying and addressing potential conflicts before they escalate,” Rutto said.

“Facilitating information sharing is also critical to ensuring that we respond quickly to emerging threats,” he added.

Rutto highlighted the importance of peace outreach programs to educate the public on the importance of maintaining peace and security noting such programs are essential for fostering a culture of peace and encouraging community involvement in peacebuilding efforts.
