Kikumbulyu South MCA Jades Kalunda has presented himself to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) after being summoned in connection with recent demonstrations in Kibwezi town.
Kalunda is accused of orchestrating protests held by Boda Boda riders and locals over the weekend who were outraged by the murder of a boda boda rider.
The rider’s body was discovered in a nearby sisal plantation, sparking the unrest.
Kalunda, accompanied by his lawyer Judah Kioko, Makueni County Assembly Speaker Douglas Mbilu, and other MCAs, arrived at the DCI offices amid considerable attention.
“Kalunde was out of town when the police summoned him,” explained his lawyer.
“He had traveled to Narok and informed me that unknown individuals with unclear intentions were following him. We couldn’t ignore such a threat, which is why we came forward today. We’ve shared our side of the story and concluded our statement.”Kioko added.
Makueni Speaker Douglas Mbilu expressed his dismay at the tactics used to track down Kalunda.
“If someone has committed a crime, they should be arrested and charged in court, There’s no need for these unsettling actions of following him at night to intimidate him” Mbilu stated.
The incident has drawn significant public interest, raising questions about the balance between law enforcement and individual rights in the face of political tensions.
