Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua is once again at longer ends with Netizens after a supplier raised concern over unpaid debt from 2014.
Caleb Wanjawa took to his Twitter account to request help from Kenyans on Twitter saying, “I supplied County Government of Machakos with goods worth Kshs. 2,395,000- in the year 2014. To date, I have not been paid. I have written several emails and WhatsApp messages to County Gov/CEC in vain. Kenyans on Twitter please help me get my payment. Caleb – Calf Holdings-0722701292.”
Wanjawa claimed that he made several visits to the county offices all in vain. He even went to the Ombudsman, PPRA, and Controller of budget who acknowledged that they owe him but up to date he hasn’t received a single coin.
Wanjawa now admits the issue has taken a toll on him and he is undergoing depression saying that he did a clean job and he knew no one in the county.
The controller of budget in the first quarter report of 2021/2022 raised alarm over laxity by the county Government of Machakos to clear outstanding bills. As of 30th June, 2021 Pending bills in Machakos County amounted to 2.80 billion for both recurrent and development expenditure. No shilling was used to pay pending bills in the period of the report.
Netizens took on the county government led by Governor Mutua and warned other people to avoid doing business in the County without being closely connected to those at the top positions. Below are some of the reactions;
Ginson Murangiri said,” If you are not politically connected or vocal; avoid supplying the govt. Hii pesa maybe ilinyongwa na County secretary, deputy governor, procurement officer na a few Boyz hapo finance.”
