Former Machakos Senator Johnston Muthama has asked Wiper Party leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka to give the people of Machakos space to choose a new Deputy Governor for Wavinya if the supreme court nullifies the Machakos Gubernatorial elections. Muthama was addressing the Media after attending the funeral of business lady Mama Mary Ngo’ndu at Tala Monday.
According to Muthama his only interest was to ensure that the people of Machakos get good quality service and development adding that he was ready to sacrifice to ensure that is achieved. Muthama also advised that if Wavinya was to be elected if the elections are nullified then the sub county that they come from should not have any County executives. This according to Muthama will ensure every area is represented.
Muthama also blamed Kalonzo for not listening to his Warning about Governor Mutua. According to Muthama Mutua later began opposing Kalonzo even after the support. It is alleged that Muthama wants his right hand man and former Deputy Governor Bernard Kiala to deputise Wavinya. The move could cause huge division in the Wiper camp that could see the party loose the seat again if the by elections are conducted. Muthama also accused Mutua of breaking the law and swearing in county executives without approval by the County Assembly.
In the run up to 2017 elections, Muthama supported Kiala to be the Gubernatorial candidate and questioned the circumstances that saw Peter Mathuki previously of EALA coming in as Deputy Governor to Wavinya. Muthama later withdrew from contesting the Machakos senatorial seat accusing the party of unfair practises in the nominations and forcing their preferred candidates to the people in Ukambani.
