The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has canceled the results for 12 students from St. Mathias Mulumba Matinyani Boys High School.
Speaking to the media, a teacher from the school whose name has been withheld due to the sensitivity of the matter, disclosed that 12 students had received “Y” results, an indication that their results had been canceled.
A total number of 328 candidates registered for the 2024 KCSE exams. However, Mr Nelson Mureithi who refused to discuss the matter released results for 316 students who attained a mean grade of C+.
This is a a drop compared to the previous years’ results where the giants posted a mean grade of B+ and B- in 2022 and 2023 respectively.
The 2022 exemplary performance saw all the 240 candidates qualifying for university.
In 2023 however, KNEC withheld the year’s results for two weeks. When the results came out, 98% of the candidates had qualified for university transition.
The cancellation for two years in a row has raised eyebrows about what could be happening with the school.
The area MP Edith Nyenze, has called upon KNEC to investigate exam malpractices in the school lest the worst happens.
“As a former teacher and high school principal, exam cheating should not be condoned. I will not let my school be ruined through exam irregularities”, she said.
