Wiper senatorial candidate in Machakos Senatorial By-election Agnes Kavindu has expressed concerns that the Maendeleo Chap Chap party may be planning to rig the elections on 18 March.
Speaking In a radio interview on Wednesday morning, Kavindu accused the governor Alfred Mutua led party of collecting names, identification card numbers, and phone numbers from the electorate at the polling station level.
She called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to look into the issue and know the purpose of the details being collected.
“Another thing I will not fail to speak about is the names, identification card numbers, and phone numbers being collected by Maendeleo Chap Chap team. We don’t know what they are planning on doing with the information they collect, if they plan to rig elections I want to ask IEBC to look into the issue and investigate,” she said.
Kavindu alleged that the Governor has also been threatening his workers with sacking if they support another candidate apart from Mutua Katuku who is vying on a Maendeleo Chapchap ticket.
She gave an example of a former Masinga MCA Joshua Mwonga who was fired as the chairman of Yatta /Masinga water service board for publicly supporting her. She said every resident of Machakos should be allowed to vote freely without being imposed.
According to Kavindu, she is best suited for the position among all other candidates. She lobbied for women to support her bid insisting she was equal to the task.
“This is a sharpened iron try a woman this time and see how I will serve you well,” she said.
