Two women from Katine village in Matungulu sub-county of Machakos County have been slapped with a fine of 1.5 million as general and exemplary damages by Kangundo Law Courts over a case of Defamation.
The two namely Lydia Mbondo and Julianna Musyoka appeared before Principal Magistrate Martha Opanga.
According to the ruling, the duo in December 2016 accused one Joseph Kioko of defiling a minor and that is said to have caused him embarrassment, ridicule, humiliation, and lowered his self-esteem.
The ruling came after a DNA test was run and the test came out negative thus proving beyond doubt that after the girl had given birth.
“Therefore the total award in this case is for Kshs 1,500,000 to be borne by the defendants as follows. General damages -1,000,000 for both defendants jointly. Exemplary damages of Kshs 500,000 by the 1st defendant solely. I also award the Plaintiff costs of the suit with interest at court rates,” The ruling read.
